Generalities about didjeridus

How can I maintain and keep my didjeridu ?

Except special order, all my instruments are vernished inside and outside, and do not require any particular maintenance. An inside washing of the instrument with warm water and mild soap once or twice a year will allow you to keep your instrument perfectly clean.Didjeridoos are chocks and climate variations sensitive instruments, therefore it is your responsibility to protect your instrument against any eventual collapse or shock ; ideally, the instrument must be kept in a bag, and be only get out to be played. After have played, you should put your instrument vertically (a thin-walled instrument, once warmed, can crack if laid on a cold tile floor for instance), in a safe place, away from any source of temperature variation (window, heating, sun ....), for 1 hour or 2, so that the inside could get dry. In order to maintain the vernish of the instrument, I recommend placing your instrument on a piece of laminated flooring, thereby avoiding to use its tip on a too rough floor.

My didjeridu is cracked. Can I bring it back for repair ?

If it is an instrument I crafted, wearing my mark at its tip, I repair the instrument for free under warranty, all shipping costs being under your responsibility.
Otherwise, any possible repair will be charged (the price being variable, according to the work to be done). For reasons of mine, I do not repair some instrumencts (such as the traditionnal ones for instance).

Are your didjeridus under warranty ?

All my instruments are under warranty, warranty applying to all of your instrument damages occurred naturally : cracks, splits, air leaks,...This warranty does not cover carelessnesses, fallings, unproper use, nor any other bad treatments : in such a case, reparations will be charged.
In case of return, the customer is in charge of every costs (back and forth), insurance, and responsibility due to shipping.
The warranty lasts for :
2 years for BLACK or GREY labelled instruments,
3 years for SILVER labelled instruments,
5 years for GOLDEN, GREEN or BLUE labelled instruments.

Used technics and wood

Where are made the didjeridus you sell? By whom?

All the instruments I sell come entirely and exclusively from my own crafting.

Which wood do you use for your 'sandwich' didjeridus ?

Mainly, I try and use dense woods with fine grains, coming from local essences (maple, sycamore,...) ou exotic essences (amarante, kevazingo,...).Moreover, I regularly try new wood species, which enables me to leran and unnderstand better the wood.

How do you craft your 'sandwich' didjeridus ?

The technique I use consists in realizing the instrument in 2 parts, then in gluing those 2 parts altogether. The main feature in the 'sandwich' instruments I craft is the choice of wood ; I do not start crafting from a branch, as many people do, but from wood for industry, perfectly dry, carefully selected and of high quality essences, and I entirely craft it inside and outside. This process aloows me to realize the one shape I want, the only constraint being the original ood piece dimensions.

Where does the eucalyptus wood you use come from ?

All the eucalyptus wood I craft come from Australia.
A part of my timbers come from Northern Territory, bought from famous didgemakers ; another part comes from Arnhem Land, bought from an Aboriginal land owners, in the small Aboriginal community in the center of Arnhem Land, where he lives.

How do you craft your termited didjeridus ?

The inside of the timbers is entirely and exclusively realized with home-made chisels, to enhance its sound features and its playability. The outside is realized with small electrical machines, except from the last finishing processes which are hand-crafted.

I know exactly the didjeridu I want. Could you craft it for me ?

That would be my pleasure to craft it, as far as I have got the necessary wood to realize it.
This kind of order is particulary interesting for me, as it is challenging. The customer must nevertheless understand that some features are not compatible, and can not be found altogether in a single instrument, as he must understand too that the factors involved in didgeridoo crafting make it almost impossible to get the exact expected instrument, and a slight tolerance may be necessary.Contact me for more details

I would like a wooden mouth-piece. Do you need my didjeridu to make one ?

If you want a perfect finish and a perfect fit between the instrument and the mouth-piece, I need your instrument at my disposal : to adjust a mouth-piece often requires a slight modification of both the mouth-piece AND the instrument.
However, if you want to make the adjustment by yourself, I realize machined mouth-pieces (made with a wood-turning machine) that fit your required dimensions.

Payment

I prefer not to use Paypal. Do you offer other payment means ?

It is always possible to pay by check or bank transfert. In this case, please contact me by email.

How long does the shipment take ?

In most cases, shipping requires between 2 days and 2 weeks, deepending on the concerned country. Due to my work obligations, it might happen that the shipment is postponed of 1 week.In all the cases, you will be notified by email or phone as soon as your instrument leaves for delivery.

What are the delivery fees for my didjeridu?

Delivery fees are free in every European country. For any other destination, you will be charged 45€ for delivery costs. After your payement, you will receive an email to enable you to pay the extra.

What would happen if a problem occurs during shipment (non reception, cracks ,...) ?

Any appeal must be made to the carrier, under whom responsibility is the delivery process.

Alex, who are you ?

I live in Lille in northern France, my native city and region. I come from a family of craftsmen modelers on wood. Technical training, I am passionate for making instruments, from my discovery of the instrument in 1994. I first made some maple instruments, which allowed me to test and understand what determines the note and the playability of different instrument. It was then that I developed my own technique for making sandwich instrument, because no method was available at that time. I have started to become interested in the manufacture of eucalyptus termite hollowed instruments many years later, during my first trip in Australia, where I discovered the profession of eucalyptus instruments manufacturer by Bob Druett. Since then, I work from multiple wood timbers and have developed different techniques of manufacture of my own, techniques that I continue to improve steadily. Remaining always curious for new wood, new protections and new instruments, I permanently devellop my skills and my range of instruments.

Why are there different colors of logos on your didjeridus ?

In March 2009 I have established a system of integrated colors in the logo present on each of my instruments. The instruments manufactured before this date have only the black logo, without distinction of class or quality.
Different logo's colors are available and their meanings are the following :

Black or gray : standard instruments
Achieved generally in a common wood for sandwich instruments or in a basic eucalyptus trunks.
A distinction is made between instruments that have no default (gray logo) and those who have a small fixed default, or a less advantageous aesthetic (black logo).
This is these type of instrument that I recommend to all those who start or want to practice on a versatile instrument.

Silver : superior instruments
In this class, the sandwich instruments generally have a complicated form, and are made in a hard and aesthetic wood, they have excellent playability and are free of any default.
The eucalyptus instruments in this class have an excellent playability and sound.
Such instruments are usually selected by experienced players who want an instrument to play in a band, or to develop very sophisticated techniques.

Gold : exceptional instruments
This is the ultimate instruments that I make. There are only few instruments that have sufficient skills to enter this category.

Green : artists' instruments
These instruments have either the artist's name engraved on the inside of the bell or a serial number. They can not be ordered, and are not for sale, except in case of replacement by the artist.

Blue : personal instruments
These are the instruments that I originally made for myself, to satisfy my needs of didgeridoo players. I just realize a single instrument of this class by year, and it is therefore difficult to find them for sale
